Shop at Whole Foods on Wed June 10th & raise $ for local schools

Whole Foods Community Day June 10 to Benefit Santa Cruz Schools

Although I am typically a local shopper, on Wednesday, June 10, Whole Foods will donate 5% of all sales between 8 am and 9 pm to the Santa Cruz Education Foundation (http://www.sceducation.org). The Santa Cruz Education Foundation is a community organization that promotes excellence in Santa Cruz City Schools by developing and enhancing programs so that all students can realize their full potential.

Plan ahead to make your purchases for family shopping, classroom parties, staff appreciation and graduation gatherings. Even advance orders for cakes, catering and more count – as long as they are picked up and paid on Wednesday. You can help all district schools simply by saving your weekly or monthly grocery shopping for June 10.

Never has the need to support our schools been greater. Here is a high-impact way to help SCEF help our schools.  Please share this message with your staff, parents friends, family and neighbors.

Local Architect, Mark Primack tells the story of his intimate relationship to Axel Erlandson’s Circus Tree’s at the Museum of Art & History, in Downtown Santa Cruz. Primack believes exploring the potential impact of these one of a kind trees in “green” architecture and “sustainable” art could prove to be “Santa Cruz County’s greatest contribution to civilization”. Even if architecture isn’t your gig, Mark Primack is a great story teller. Listening to him tell his story about these trees and how he saved many years ago will be sure to be a crowd pleaser.

The theme this year for the *rad* event called the Makers Faire is appropriatly “REMAKE: AMERICA”. Innovation is what is going to pull this Country up by it’s boot straps; the Makers Faire is a gathering place for many incredible innovators we have in the Bay Area. It is a one of a kind event great for all ages. There are crafts, demos, motorized larger than life cupcakes you can drive, fantastic food, and great music. It is really a two day event to do it right, but if you can only get there for a few hours it is still worth it. Buy your tickets now and get there early because this is a heavily attended event and getting to the fairgrounds can be time consuming due to traffic.

In the aftermath of the California’s Special Election, the City of Santa Cruz has launched a new City Budget Website to create a more transparent government and solicit the community for feedback. I am sure Santa Cruzen’s hope that the results produced from the new website will live up to the innovation that created it. The website, designed by Shane&Peter and Rob Knight, is utilizing innovative tools developed by local start-up UserVoice for it’s feedback forum.
If you live in the City of Santa Cruz log in, make suggestions and vote. If you are not in Santa Cruz, take a look at what can be in your city to make a difference. Change starts at home.

Part of Parachute’s promise and concept was greatly influenced by our location, the one size fits all, Neuner-ific NextSpace, in Surf City California….When I looked up the definition of incubator, the first thing that came up was “to grow under conditions that promote development” and the conditions that NextSpace provides are definitely promoting growth and development in so many facets. We’re so stoked to be in such a innovative and collaborative space that fosters free thinking and new ideas….

parachute creative: “grow under conditions that promote development”

50 Mile Radius is also located up an NextSpace with Parachute Creative. We ditto all that they mention in their newest blog post.

The resources available to us here at Nextspace are incredible. The Creativity…ridiculous. The Energy…off the charts. The Innovation…there is no other place like in Santa Cruz.

Thanks to all that make it this way. I am grateful.

PS: make sure to check out all of the creative graphics that Parachute’s been pumping out lately.

A GREAT NEW SITE TO CHECK OUT!!! Create a movement with your sphere of influence and track your impact. Brilliant! 50 Mile Radius can not *wait* to use Zazengo.
PS: They are hiring a front and back end “Ruby on Rails Ninja” to work for them. Email sean.tario (at) gmail (dot) com for more information…
